Organisers of the 2023 Mt Mulanje Porters’ Race have announced that this year’s competition will take place on July 8.
Team leader of the organising committee Kondwani Chamwala has revealed that the event will take place in Likhubula valley – Mulanje.
Chamwala has added that, “This year is the 25th Anniversary of this epic race and will focus on assisting the recovery from Cyclone Freddy which heavily affected communities around the mountain, including the tourism industry.”
Established in 1996, the Porters Race was a competition originally limited to Porters and Guides of Mount Mulanje before it became an annual event attracting other participants.
The race is expected to draw athletes from across Africa, Europe, America as well as Asia.
Every local participant is required to pay a registration fee of K3,000 and K2,000 for men and women respectively whereas international participants will be required to pay a K15,000.
